Bars 1-5 (The Loo Part): Do not waste too much effort singing this part because the other parts after that is MORE Important. However, you still have to sing this part well!

Bar 10: Take note of the quaver rest before the ‘Ng’

Bar 16: ‘Na’ must hold! Watch Miss Teng! Also, since we’re the only section moving notes, must make it more obvious!

Bar 19: ‘Kaw’! It’s a clashing note! So must make it obvious. ESPECIALLY THE HIGHER PART

Bar 20: ‘Pag a sa’. Take note of pitching! We tend to go flat

Bar 24: (only applies to lower part). When you move from the note ‘C’ to ‘E’, make it more natural and gradual. Sometimes, we are quite flat there as well!

Bar 25: The three notes for ‘hay’. PRACTISE UNTIL PERFECT. We also tend to be flat there + always cannot hear the last note ‘G’. Also must be more refined!

Bar 29: ‘tay, ma ma’. In between the tay and ma, CANNOT BREATHE!

Bar 36: In between ‘kaw’ and ‘ooh’, there’s a break! But do not break so abruptly. Make it more natural. Also, must be softer

Bar 38: CHANGE COLOUR for the Dahilsayo.

Bar 41: The 3 notes for Ya! Same as bar 25 so take note.

Bar 53: (The Loo Part) Get your note from SOP 1s. But you must also be sure of the note too. And because we are singing with SOP 2s, so we must sing louder but not aggressively. It must sound musical!

Bar 54: After the first loo, there is a break

Bar 54-55: The last 2 Loos you must form a chord. Esp last chord! Look at conductor as to how long you have to hold!

Bar 18: 2^nd ‘u’ chord. It’s a F MAJOR chord so you must lock the chord together so it sounds like one. Also, the higher part for the ‘i no chi wa’ must be MUCH LOUDER. Some lower part people will help you sing

Bar 19: HOLD THE LAST CHORD. FYI it’s an INTERRUPTED chord.

Bar 20: Change colour again. A more touching sound! HIGHER PART MUST BE LOUDER!!! Even though only a few people singing, but you must be louder!

Bar 23: Both lower and higher part singing same thing so you must make sure it sounds the same

Bar 27: The ‘ma’and ‘mo’ chord is the same. However, the ‘ru’ chord is a B MAJOR chord. So it must sound like a B Major chord!

Bar 28: The ‘do’ chord is a G MAJOR CHORD

Bar 34: A MA E MO NA- DON’T BREAK THE WORDS

Bar 35: The higher part, when you shift down from B flat to G, must make it obvious

- the sound must be active and constantly moving.

- Beginning (Bars 1-101)

· Start lightly. When the A1’s come in, become softer until its almost a whisper, but don’t fade away.

· Emphasize on the ‘ra’ during the layering part. Crescendo during this portion too

· In the next section, there is a crescendo at the end of every phrase.

· Decrescendo from bar 86 onwards

- Middle (Bars 102-239)

· Have a steady beat, each phrase must be strong and settled

· Crescendo at the ‘Lin’ in ‘Rapido Salta La Liebre Lin’. This is to compliment A1s’ entrance.

- Ending (Bars 240-268)

· Don’t accelerate

· Sing the last phrase with ENTHUSIASM!

Expression:

- Beginning (Bars 1-101)

· Light and playful

· Lower notes symbolize the dog, who’s chasing after the rabbit

· The dog is trying to catch up with the rabbit.

· Even though this part is brisk and quick, it’s still very rhythmic, not rushed.

· The weight of each phrase slowly builds as the intensity increases. As you transit to the next phrase, the weight of the phrases start to decrease slightly.

- Middle 1 (Bars 20-35)

· Revert back to the same mood as in the beginning. Soft and stable.

· Settle each chord, make sure you listen and hook onto the notes of other sections

· At ‘Donna ma ya’, the sound is soft, but intense and steady. This feeling builds and overflows into the next section

- Middle 2 (Bars 36-47)

· The notes are now brighter sounding. Built intensity with each breath, don’t let go of it when you reach the next phrase and refresh.

· Gets louder as you advance towards the ‘ah-ah-ah…’ part

· Intensity peaks at ‘Atarashi-i’, make sure you move with the other sections and go at the same pace.

· Slow down and decrescendo at the ‘inochino tameni’

- Ending (Bars 47-57)

· Don’t cruise. Constantly move and refresh chords when other parts change.

· Once again, make sure the chords at settles, and that the clashes are clear.

Expression:

- This song is melancholic and talks about the wonderful aspects and, at the same time, the hardships of life.

- it also speaks of how all our lives are symbiotic with the environment and how we are to adapt and accept it.

- even though life can be hard sometimes, there is always hope and one must have faith in a brighter day.

Sound:

- Active, picture yourselves as ants working in an ant hill, or marching across the grassland to find food.

Dynamics and rhythm:

· Bar 43, ‘zazaza –break- zaza!’ make sure the break is clear and clean

· Make sure you keep to the beat, count on your own. Follow the speed, don’t slow down on your own.

· Come in CLEARLY on the ‘Moshikasuruto’

· The chord on the ‘ZA’ must be together (with the other sections) and stable. Be careful of your pitch!

· ‘Ku—mo!’ hold for 7 counts (ku-2-3-4, 1-2-3 MO!) < wrong way of counting, but it’s easier (?)

Expression:

- pretend you’re an ant, a busy, tiny ant, scurrying around, gathering food. Imagine the activity and the commotion in a single ant hill with millions and millions of ants and all those small little jobs like gathering food and looking after the baby ants. So picture yourself as a busy ant, singing and working!

- make sure all the rests are clear and the breaks are together.

- when singing ‘za’ try not to do too much of the ‘zz’ and drop your jaw for the ‘ah’ sound

Even though it was sung by a SATB choir, it still sounds so beautiful!

6:10-6:30 - Change and put make up (do warm-ups in the mean time)
6:30-6:35 - Gather in hall (prepared and in your rows)

On reaching the venue, we have to wait for registration. Do not talk while we're walking to the concert hall from the warm up room (keep quiet at ALL times) We will be bringing water there, so don't have to bring water bottle. Do not bring anything with you (hp, etc..)

10:15 - Back in school - change up and eat lunch

Btw the lyrics are from a poem by someone called Ludwig Uhlman or something and it's based on an actual Chapel in Germany near a town called Tuebingen called "die Wurmlinger Kapelle" which is right on top a mountain or something (you can go google it; I wanted to put a picture of it here but I have no idea how to do it cos I'm on my phone, teehee) He won a poetry competition and the topic was to write about the Chapel. Thus this poem came about.

The gist of the poem: (yes you're doing literature in German! :D) At first the sheperd boy is singing happily. Then he hears the funeral procession above at the chapel, which sits atop a mountain. Following that he stops singing and realises that one day he will die too and the eerie funeral songs he's listening too right now will one day be played for him. (memento-mori) So my teacher made us draw some diagram and everything "above" (chapel, bell ringing, cadaver choir, grave) is sad/death whereas everything "below" (sheperd boy, happy songs etc) is happy/life. If you see the translation you'll notice that the sentences in Stanza 1 and 2 either talk about the below/above. Yupyup. Something like that. Genius ain't it??? :D

Note: Credits for the meaning and the extra info and all (in case ur wondering) from my (and Felicia's) german teacher (she was from Tuebingen, that German town near the Wurmlinge Kapelle!) who actually bothered to print out worksheets based on this poem aside from teaching us how to analyse it when all we did was ask her how to pronounce some words O.O (Which made it a HUGE waste if I didn't tell you guys so woohoo man I finally have!)

Please go and watch the HQ videos of your performance during Jubilate. I wanted to post it here but the file size exceeded the limit by a lot. :D

Jubilate was a blast wasn't it? Frankly, to me it was very different from past years. This year, it was quite rushed, as in last year there were long periods of time for us to sit around and play games and sing and stuff.

Well, you all can go FB and take a look at the countless photos. Too bad the only section photo I managed to get were Sop1s and Alto 2s. I hope (who was that person again... I think is art foo?) takes a lot of photos of us during our performance.

Hi Choir :)

Because we ended late on fri, so here are the few announcements we need to make.

Jubilate tickets!! As it is most probably not free seating, please buy as early as possible to get better seats. Each of you will be required to sell at least 2 tickets. $35 each.

Trip people. THOSE PEOPLE WHO STILL HAVE YET TO HAND IN YOUR PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR PASSPORT,PLEASE PUT IT IN MR LIM'S PIGEON HOLE ON MONDAY. FINAL DAY! Please indicate on it your name, class, next-of-kin's (eg. parent, guardian etc.) name and contact, your medical history and food allergies if any. Also please get your roomings settled. Either you or you roomate must notify Cassandra.

Sec Ones + Ppl who altered the gown MUST Bring the money to pay on THURSDAY 4th March.

Consent Form. Get your parents to sign then bring it on Thurs. Reds pass to Jean Wei. Greys pass to Tiara. Whites to Yang Zhen. Greens to Qian Yi.

Contacts List. Please check that all of your information printed is correct. If there are mistakes, please make sure you write your name as well as the correct info on board in the ava room before choir on thurs 4th March. IMPORTANT NOTICES!!

Hi choir these are the important notices you need to take note of.

Alterations of choir uniforms will be on 26 of Feb (i.e next Friday). Seniors please wear your shoes and check the lengths of your uniforms this weekend. The correct length of your uniforms should be just high enough to see the tip of your court shoes but not your any part of your feet. IMPORTANT SO PLEASE CHECK!!! Those who have grown laterally or horizontally and need to make a new uniforms please tell either Clara or Celeste.

PHOTOCOPY OF PASSPORT IN BY NEXT WEEK! With it include your medical history, food allergies, next of kin's name and contact number. For those whose passports are expiring this year, quickly go make a new passport during the March holidays or else you will not be able to travel out of the country.

Jubilate tickets ($70) please give it to the teachers ASAP, latest 12 March. All the money has to be in BEFORE the March holidays.

For the Sec 1s who did not hear what we said about the shoes, we are going to tell you here. As the tailor will be coming next friday you need to get your shoes by FRIDAY so that we can make the uniform of the correct length.

The shoes must be-

must be PURE WHITE

Covered

No embelishments (no ribbions, beads, lace, prints, etc...)

tip must be ROUNDED. no pointed tips allowed.

No Flats

Heels 1 inch-2 inches high. minimum height 1 inch.

Some suggestions for places you can buy the shoes from. The shoe shops in Far East, AMK jubilee, or those small little heartland shops near Toa Payoh hub or Kovan.

We've also found a video on youtube of Butterfly sung by another choir, please go see it and get an idea what we should sound like and how butterflies actually behave. CCA FAIR 2010

Hello Choir!

I know we told you guys about your performance today, I would just like to add on few more things which I couldn't say cause i know you guys wanted to leave. fast.

So once again WELL DONE and THANK YOU CHOIR :D We really appreciate that despite we had to start quite early in the morning everyone was energetic, ALIVE and all ready to *ahem* lure some sec 1s to join choir. haha.

For the 3 songs- I Feel Pretty, Kimionosete, Tomorrow you guys sounded good, very lively, I'm very sure the Sec 1s enjoyed the performance very much :D Parents who came to watch also have many positive comments about the songs we sang. Your hard work will definitely pay off with the many sec 1s being inspired to sign up for choir on monday!

I know halfway through everyone got abit sian after singing the songs so many times but thank you for smiling through each and every performance. Even though we didn't practice getaran and isuki for this CCA fair, you guys managed to pull through the songs, so BRAVO CHOIR! I'm really sorry I didn't get any schedule to see the timings of the classes so all you of practically had to be stuck in the MPR3 for the whole 4 hours and thank you for cooperating with us by running back during the short breaks we had when the next class pops in.

Ok lastly, a few words of thanks to a few people. Firstly, the teachers- Mr Lim, Mrs Ong, 沈老师for being with us from morning till afternoon. Next, will be the seniors who came back to support us, some even sang with us too! Then it will be the SCs for helping us add more emotion to the songs as well to lead us today. And then lastly you all may not know it but when you guys were on your breaks, Vanessa and Celeste were talking to the parents answering thousands of questions (and most were repeated) and trying to convince them to let their daughters join choir, it was really tiring for them so THANK YOU VERY MUCH :D

Rather tiring day so go and rest now and MAKE SURE you all have the same kind of energy and enthusiasm on Thursday and Friday during sectionals for Kekatu. Comon' Choir lets work towards the Russia trip together. I know we can do it! JIAYOU EVERYBODY.

P.S we still need 9 people to go for the trip so those who have a 1%-99% chance of going please convince your parents that this trip would be a beneficial one and for the Sec 4s not to worry about O levels cause there WILL BE STUDY TIME FOR US.

Hello choir !

here's wishing everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2009 has been a real eventful year(:

so let's recollect...

We began with preparations for SYF and the whole journey was amazing and memorable. it helped us all grow and to progress towards our goal together as a whole family. we managed to overcome all our challenges and defeats to emerge stronger and victorious, with all our efforts paying off. with the result we achieved! HONOURS once again!!

We also enjoyed the annual celebration of the performing arts with JUBILATE VI!

Also, another highlight was collaborating with TKGSchoir to perform in Leong Yoon Pin's A Choral Odyssey @ the Esplanade(probably the first for all)! this was a tribute to Mr Leong Yoon Pin to honour all his wonderful works. the whole preparation process was an enjoyable experience especially with TKGchoir:D its not always we get to sing songs about food... yum yum!

And finally to end the year we had a Mini SYF at NYGH, a learning experience for choir. To perform in front of other top choirs, to experience top choirs's wonderful pieces. Even get to hear our own piece, Silver Swan, be sung by other choirs.

Now as we begin 2010, it is gonna be a very very busy year with the upcoming Primary SYF performance which sec2s will be taking part in, and preparations for the first ever YOG!! Not forgetting Jubilate VII in May and the possibility of the St Petersburg trip in June!! (only you can make it possible!)

As 2009 draws to a close, its important for us to put leave behind all the sad and frustrating moments we had and move on to 2010. Start a NEW year with our new red badges, be even more ready to work harder together to make this batch of choristers the BEST BATCH of sn choir anyone has seen. Do it not only for Ms Lim and the teachers but also for ourselves. 2010 is gonna be an eventful year for us and we hope to make the very best out of all that we'll be doing and to enjoy our performances and treasure all our practices whether good or bad.

Let's all remember not to get carried away with all the excitement(: and always be striving to be at our best and not be complacent. Always remember to be grateful for Ms Lim and our teachers. And! Of course, through the whole process of making mistakes and growing from our past experiences, let's stick together and make 2010 an unforgettable year for us, SNCHOIR:D

HELLO CHOIR!

we've created a new blog! cause we've decided to revive it! so please do come here often to check on updates or to tag and everything! we're still in the process of getting it started proper. so bear with us!

and also, i know today's work was hard as some of you all put it. especially the cranes peeps.

it probably got a bit boring after a while but thank you all for your perseverance thats why we managed to do even more than our original target of 480!:)
